Event Planning Melbourne Victoria - Feng Shui Food - How to Eat In Harmony and with compassion

Feng Shui is all about placement for balance, here I have extended the idea to the right food for balance. Whilst Feng Shui is used to ensure the space reflects a balance of Yin & Yang, the food you consume can also balance your own Yin & Yang energy.

The idea of Yin and Yang can also apply to the food you eat. With food, Yin would generally be the milder flavors while Yang would be the bolder flavors. Nature reflects the essence of Yin & Yang, light and dark, hot and cold, stationary & moving are simple examples. But how does this apply to the food you consume? Have you noticed that over processed food is often grey or even black? One well known soft drink is a classic example. It’s life force began a long time ago with sparkling effervescent clear water and ended in a mess of black, manipulated, dead energy. You are what you eat.

Think about this before you consume. If you want to feel bright and happy, eat food that is colourful and light. If you would prefer to feel flat and tired, choose heavy, dark, modified, manipulated foods. Plastic is not fantastic. A golden rule I use is the more packaging, the more dead the food.

Here in Melbourne we have supermarkets spending millions of dollars on convincing us as “The Fresh Food People”, when maybe 10% of their product appears fresh! Even then it’s a joke– our apples for example spend six months in a coolroom before they get to the grocery….now should they still be allowed to call themselves the fresh food people? I think not. Select wisely, buy food in season and as local as possible.

We here at Best Catering in Melbourne specialize in Asian catering so we have learnt the traditional Asian way of preparing and cooking fresh food. The Chinese usually buy their fruit and vegetables daily, not weekly like us westerners and if you go into a Chinese grocery you will see the freshest vegetables, it makes our supermarkets look outright second rate.

Chinese recipes already take advantage of this type of Feng Shui balance. For example a sweet and sour strong flavored pork dish would be paired with plain rice; an example of Yin/Yang balanced.

Soft or delicate food with crispfood is another example eg.Tofu dishes with chopped nuts or diced water chestnuts always balance these textural differences. A plate full of crunchy food could tire the mouth, while a plate full of soft food might not seem very fulfilling by itself.

Balance is very necessary in consuming food. At Event Planning Melbourne Victoria we always try to provide a range of at least three different colours of food per meal eg red chillis with green beans & orange baby carrot or beetroot with white fish & green spinach are simple visual examples of seeking balance through your diet.

Remember you are what you consume. Your eyes will tell you enough information about the food you are about to consume, if you are not enticed by it, why eat it? The food you consume can raise your spirit or kill your spirit.

And finally, eat in gratitude. I always try to take a moment to thank everybody involved in providing this meal to me, the farmers, the vegetables, the animals, even the sun, wind and rain. It all right now exists for my nourishment. Then Yin & Yang is naturally balanced. Best Catering in Melbourne
